| Karpaz, griechisch Karpasía, ist eine langgestreckte Halbinsel im Nordosten der Mittelmeerinsel. Ihre Spitze bildet das Kap Apostolos Andreas.
Die Halbinsel ist ca. 80 km lang und ca. 10 km breit. Bedeutendste Stadt ist Rizokarpaso (Dipkarpaz). Das Kloster Apostolos Andreas war einst ein wichtiger Pilgerort, das einst als zypriotisches Lourdes galt. Unter den Zypernreisenden ist die Karpazhalbinsel (noch) ein Geheimtipp. Touristisch kaum erschlossen, bietet dieser Teil Zyperns unberührte Dünenlandschaften, menschenleere Strände und Felsenküsten und glasklares Wasser. Damit das auch so bleibt, hat die hiesige Regierung am Ende der Halbinsel einen Naturschutzpark errichtet. |
Karpaz, Greek Karpasia is an elongated peninsula in the north east of the Mediterranean island. The tip is the Cape Apostolos Andreas. The peninsula is about 80 km long and 10 km wide. The most important city is Rizokarpaso (Dipkarpaz). The monastery of Apostolos Andreas was once an important pilgrimage site, was once seen as Cypriot Lourdes. Among the tourists is the peninsula Karpaz (still) a secret. Touristicaly barely tapped, this area of Cyprus offers pristine dunes, deserted beaches and rocky shores and crystal clear water. In order to remain so, the local government has built at the end of the peninsula a national park. |
